The greatest thing about Firefox is all of the available add-ons. It seems like everyday someone is creating a new add-on that will help me get things done faster, organize my content better or make my browser smarter.
Below are three Firefox add-ons that I’ve been using lately. I believe each one offers significant value.
BlueOrganizer
I’m really impressed with AdaptiveBlue’s BlueOrganizer. This add-on is pretty robust and extends the browser by intelligently organizing and managing bookmarked content. Think of it as bookmarking on steroids.
The add-on gives you a nifty sidebar within your browser that stores pages, images and videos that have been “bluemarked” and allows you to filter your bookmarks and search them by tags. I like how the sidebar UI captures images of the content that has been bookmarked.
The BlueOrganizer offers many more features that are worth checking out. I have to say though, it would be nice if the BlueOrganizer supported Microformats. Then I would be able to organize my contacts and events.

StumbleUpon
Lately I’ve become pretty addicted to StumbleUpon! This add-on extends your browser by adding a toolbar to your browser and gives you the ability to “stumble” sites. “Stumbling” is done by clicking a button on the toolbar and then getting redirected to a site that has been added to the StumbleUpon repository. The toolbar also offers reviews, an option to send to a friend and allows you to rate pages by selecting a thumbs up or thumbs down button. Sounds like fun, right?
The nice thing about “stumbling” is you can set the type of sites you’re interested in viewing. For example, if you choose CSS and click on the stumble button, you’ll be served sites that are tagged with CSS.
Underneath the finger clicking fun toolbar is a community layer that offers typical features of a social networking site. In order to use the toolbar you must create an account with StumbleUpon, which is free and easy.

BlogRovr
Do you spend countless hours reading blog posts? Then chances are you’ll love the BlogRovr add-on. This add-on fetches posts from your favorite blogs that you’ve preselected on BlogRovr’s site. When you’re blog browsing, a snappy little slide-out tray appears that shows summaries of related posts made by your favorite authors. This is a sure way to cut-down on the amount of time spent surfing blogs.
For Twitter lovers, the guys over at BlogRovr recently released an update that supports Twitter.
Overall, I’ve been pleased with this add-on. Although, I think the UI could use a little love.

Hey there - thanks for blogging about BlueOrganizer. We are happy to know that you like it
We are working on Microformats support and hopefully it will be coming out in the next major release.
Please be in touch and lets us know what else you’d like to see and what we should fix.

Nice round-up. I’ve heard some good things about BlueOrganizer and BlogRovr but have yet to try them out myself — I guess now is the time.
I’ve recently become addicted to StumbleUpon also, good stuff!

I’ve tried that blue thing once, but I think I never ‘got it’. It seemed overly complex, sent me some ads that had little to do with me, and I felt I could do everything I wanted already with other services.
This means the add-on isn’t as good as you say, or that I’m not as intelligent as the add-on. My money is on the latter.
Blog Rover does sound interesting and it’s the first I hear about it. Glad to see a FF add-on review that actually tells me something new and interesting.

@Nils: I’ll admit - I was a little confused at first with the BluOrganizer. Give it some time and you will discover its value.

Doug, I took your advice and downloaded the StumbleUpon toolbar. It’s pretty sweet. I have read some other good things about it but I guess you really don’t know until you try it.
In a way it is also a bit scary. Do I really want a technology to know this much about me? I used to Google for things I was interested in, but now StumbleUpon tells me what I am interested in. Very cool but a bit shady.
It won’t be long before they know exactly what advertisements to show me. “Hi Chip, we have some great new pillows that would match that green sofa in your living room”

@Chip: I sometimes get freaked when I visit Amazon! They do a really good job of making product suggestions based on my prior purchases. Sometimes they know exactly what I came there for - It’s kind of nice.

The Web Developer and ColorZilla Color Picker add-ons are absolutely essential to me.

I have to agree with dawnsbrain at least on the Web Developer add-on, I find it absolutely essential. I tried the color picker, and well I can already sample colors. ForecastFox is another must-have add-on in my opinion, always have weather info right in front of me.

@Doug & Dawnsbrain: Yeah, the Web Developer toolbar is essential for developing and designing. I also use Firebug - probably my favorite FF add-on.
