I (sort of) figured out a decent solution!

There’s an add-on for FireFox called ‘iGoogle Tab remover’

It basically - “Hides the iGoogle left navigation tabs and header, so you can have more room to browse”

You can get it here:

If you’re anything like me, you’ll get it NOW! :)

Seems google has caught up with all the hacks, tricks and tweaks. Even some of the other igoogle sites, like google.ca, google.ie, etc are now switched.
