With the amazing growth Twitter has had over the past year I often find myself explaining Twitter to family and friends. The most common response I receive is, “why would I want to broadcast my life?” which is a reasonable question to ask. This video below really hits the nail on the head.
How big is Twitter?
Nielson published a blog post last month showing Twitter’s growth of 1382% from February 2008 through February 2009 – 475,000 unique visitors to 7 million. I’m no mathematician, but those are some sexy numbers. This growth makes Twitter the fastest growing site in the Member Communities category for February. According to Quantcast, Twitter’s main demographic is 18-50 year olds and only 1% of users are under the age of 18. It’s a bit shocking to see this much growth while the kids have yet to hop on the wave.

Here’s a CollegeHumor video, Real-life Twitter which Mike Elgan blogged about earlier today… Mike says:
“I’m all for criticizing Twitter. But it’s simply stupid to criticize Twitter for forcing comments on other people, when the sole feature that makes Twitter different is that you cannot force strangers to listen to you.”
